Let’s talk about reading

While waiting for the publication of the programme book you may start reading the festival press releases as a way to start the selection process. This leads me to the word of the day:

Verité – could be literally translated as ‘cinema of truth’. When you see this word applied to something that is not a documentary, the truth is all this means is the talent may not be wearing a lot of makeup. Think Cloverfield or that episode of Battlestar where they had to jump every 33 minutes because there may or may not have been a tracking device or a spy on the Olympic carrier. If you like your principals pretty, and your camera work steady, fiction films with this word in the précis may not be for you.

No affiliation whatsoever

This is not an official TIFF site. If it was I would not have to wait in so many lineups with my festival knapsack full of water, snacks, sunscreen and other supplies.
